After installing a PXIe storage module Windows should automatically discover the new storage and install the correct drivers. However, you still must initialize the storage and configure it for your needs before it will be available to use.
Some Conduant modules are single devices such as the DM-U.2 which provides a single U.2 NVME solid state storage device for your system. Others, such as the DM-4M.2 will install multiple storage devices. If you have multiple devices and want to create the fastest possible storage you will want to create a striped array (RAID 0).
Windows 10 includes tools for setting up your storage. You will need administrator rights on your system to do this configuration. There are numerous options available when setting up storage but the most common choices are shown below. Consult Windows documentation for more information.
SINGLE DISK
- Press "Windows Key + X" and select “Disk Management.” You can also use "Computer Management" and then select "Disk Management" from inside that application.
- New disks should be detected and the tool may provide a popup to initialize these new disks. In general use "GPT" for these new disks.
- In the lower window pane, verify that all expected disks are detected. They should be listed starting at "Disk 1" if you only have a system drive installed other than these drives.
- Any new disks that are listed as unknown/uninitialized, need to be initialized. Right-click on an uninitialized disk and select "Initialize Disk", choose "GPT" as the partition style. Do this for all uninitialized disks.
- Now right-click in the unallocated space to the right of the disk number you want to setup., select "New Simple Volume" and then "Next" in the wizard screen.
- Set the desired size of the volume, usually you will want to accept the default size since it will default to the maximum. Select "Next".
- Select the drive letter to assign to this drive, then "Next".
- Specify the file system type (usually NTFS), Select "Quick Format", enter a volume name (optional), select "Next" and "Finish".
STRIPED ARRAY (RAID 0)
- Follow steps for SINGLE DISK up to step 5, but select "New Striped Array", then "Next" in the wizard screen.
- In the window displayed, the disk you started with to create the array should be displayed in the "Selected" window view, the "Available" window view should display a list of disks available to be added to the array. In the case of the DM-4M.2 module you should see 3 additional disks in this window. Add all devices you want in the array by selecting the disk in "Available" and clicking "Add". Once all disks are in the "Selected" view, select "Next".
- Select the drive letter to assign to this drive, then "Next".
- Specify the file system type (usually NTFS), select "Quick Format", assign a volume name (optional), select "Next" and "Finish".
- The system may warn that the disks will be converted to dynamic if they have previously been basic disks.
Submit a ticket if you have questions or issues with your new disk module.
